History
Tradition of meetings, which focus professionals, whom act in aid of chronically ill, disabled and elderly people arose in 1998, during situation when in Poland started developing new field of healthcare – long-term care and began function first institutions, which serve specialist care for this group of patients. Vital problem, beside obvious financial deficit, were lack of competent personnel, which could serve professional aid – mainly nurses and also lack of any Polish standards. At that time existed three main needs: urgency of education in this field of medicine, need to create experience exchange platform and finally necessity to start discussion about the shape of long-term care in future. To face this particular problems Toruńskie Zakłady Materiałów Opatrunkowych SA (Toruń Dressing Materials Works) came out with initiative of organizing cyclical Conference of Long-term Care, which would focus leaders of this discipline – both people working in favour of the disabled (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers) and representatives of central and lokal administration.
